Description

Hogarth, William, 1697-1764.

The Analysis of Beauty.
Written with a view of fixing the fluctuating Ideas of Taste. London, Printed by J. Reeves for the author, 1753.

Stories have a beginning and I would start the story of Arts and Crafts design with this work. This does not mean that this book is the first book on design you should read, but at some point it will be worth reading. You will hear the book’s echo in Denman Ross and Varnum. It does not have a print with it and, despite what some dealers say, I don’t think the book was originally sold with a Hogarth print included.
