Linen measures 39.5″ x 14.25″, the embroidered area is 27.5″ x 8″ The embroidery is worked in shades of golden copper silk.

Selwyn Image (17 February 1849, Bodiam, Sussex – 21 August 1930, London) was an important British artist, designer, writer and poet associated with the Arts and Crafts Movement. He designed stained-glass windows, furniture, embroidery, and was an illustrator of books. Image was a Professor of Fine Art at Oxford from 1910 to 1916. He was a member of the Art Workers’ Guild in London.

He designed a series of panels for the Royal School of Art Needlework which were offered as kits – this being one of the series. It is very nicely worked in silk embroidery threads.
